South Australian Lycett has been linked with a move to Port Adelaide, as he seeks more game time in the seniors.

The 21-year-old has played 17 games in four seasons and seven games this season, including four of the past five as he emerges as an AFL ruckman.

It's believed his decision hinged on whether Cox would be at the Eagles in 2015.

The Eagles are adamant Lycett will stay at West Coast, despite remaining out of contract.

Cox, a six-time All Australian, will be remembered as one of the greatest ruckmen the game has ever seen.

He will play out the season.

He is being compared as one of the greatest ruckman of the past 20 years, alongside Simon Madden, Jim Stynes and Aaron Sandilands.

"To finally say 'it's finished' wasn't easy." Cox said.

"I've built a career where I was at a level consistently having an impact on games. But it got to a stage this year where it wavered away from that. If I was to continue next year, it would probably be an injustice to myself.

"It's been a decision I've been thinking about for a little while. I've spoken to people close to me about my future, " Cox said.

"I've been in grinds throughout seasons for a particular game here or there.

"But when it happens early in the first quarter, and you are just trying to really get through the game, you're thinking 'maybe it might have just gone past me a little bit'."
