Dane Swan inks new deal at Magpies

Dane Swan

The 29-year-old has signed a new two-year deal, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

Swan said he wasn't interested in playing anywhere else and was happy to get his contract out of the way before the season started.

"In a way, I've grown up at Collingwood. I've been here for 13 years and loved it all the way," he said.

"I figured the least I could do is get things sorted out early, remove any potential complications or distractions, and focus on a big year."

Collingwood general manager of list management Derek Hine was pleased with how smooth the negotiation process was.

"Dane and his management consistently said that their intention was for Dane to continue his career at Collingwood," Hine said.

"Dane wanted to stay and we wanted him to stay. We were both very transparent and our negotiations were seamless.

"Dane undoubtedly sits comfortably in the upper echelon of the elite players of the competition and we are confident that he will continue to play to the level that all AFL fans are accustomed for the term of his new agreement.

"We are delighted that he will continue to build on his playing CV at Collingwood, where he sits among the all-time great players."

In further good news for the Magpies, Heritier Lumumba, formerly Harry O'Brien, also penned a new deal with the club.

He is now contracted at Collingwood until the end of the 2015 season.
