In 2012, Swan told News Corp he planned to retire at the end of 2014 because he wanted to travel and be free of the constraints of elite sport.
"I will play out my contract and, at the moment, I think that will be the end of me," Swan said in a candid interview.
"I would be 30 then (at the end of 2014), and they might want to get rid of me. They might be going for a youth policy by then.
"I won't be still here playing when I am 35. I am not going to be one of those people who plays until they get sacked," he said in 2012.
However Swan signed a contract extension in January that runs until the end of next year.
