Brett Burton has become the second Crow in a week to announce he has played his final game for Adelaide, succumbing to an ankle injury.

Burton follows captain Simon Goodwin, who also confirmed he had played his last game for the club, after during the week.

Both Burton and Goodwin announced they would retire at season's end to join already retired Tyson Edwards.

Andrew McLeod is also battling injury to return this year after knee surgery, and while the 33 year-old is yet to announce his retirement, he is also expected to hang up his boots at the end of the year.

Burton had hoped he would regain his fitness and return to the field for Adelaide after knee surgery midway through the year, but conceded the slow progress on the track from this latest setback means his retirement is immediate.

"When I announced my retirement mid-season, I said that I was committed to training hard and getting back to full fitness so I could come back and perform for the Adelaide Football Club again," Burton told the club's website on Tuesday.

"While I have been setting high standards in my training since then, unfortunately the ankle injury I sustained six weeks ago has prevented me from playing again."

"I would like to thank all those supporters who have supported me during my career and look forward to seeing you at our round 22 game against St Kilda.

"I would also like to thank my wife Jane, my parents Gary and Karen and siblings Ty and Tanya for their continued support throughout my career."

Burton, 33, managed six games this year and will end his career on 177 AFL matches.The high flyer made his debut in 1999 and was the club-s leading goal kicker in 2002 and 2008.

The announcement continues a week filled with headlines at the Adelaide Football Club, with Nathan Bock confirming a move to Gold Coast Suns on Tuesday.
