Cousins call on Tuesday

The playing future of Richmond midfielder Ben Cousins is expected to be announced on Tuesday.

Club officials met to discuss his future on Monday, but would not comment on any speculation about his future with an announcement expected at a press conference on Tuesday.

Cousins will be out of contract with the club at the end of the year and the rumour is strong that he will call time on his controversial career at season's end.

While he has been in reasonable form for the Tigers since his overnight stay in hospital following a sleeping pill mishap, the 32-year-old is said to be considering calling it quits.

The 268-game veteran has been the AFL's most controversial star over the past few years after a stunning fall from grace. He went from being a Brownlow Medallist in 2005 and a premiership player in 2006 to being effectively banned for a year by the AFL at the end of 2007 after admissions that he had a drug addiction.

Cousins' rehabilitation has been a public affair and while the Tigers offered him a lifeline, he has rarely been out of the spotlight in his time at Punt Rd.
