Cotchin bumped three

Richmond young gun Trent Cotchin is set to spend at least three weeks on the sidelines after the AFL Match Review Panel handed out a lengthy ban for the Tiger's hit on North Melbourne's Sam Wright.

Cotchin, one of Richmond's rising stars, was handed a four-match ban, which can be reduced to three after he made late contact with Wright during the second quarter of the Kangaroos 50-point win at the MCG.

The incident was assessed as reckless, high impact and high contact, meaning it was classified as a level four offence, with 425 points. His previous record means it can be reduced by 25 percent with an early plea.

In a busy day for the MRP, Brisbane's Ashley McGrath has copped a one-match ban and Port Adelaide's Daniel Motlop a two-match suspension, while four other players were given reprimands.

McGrath, who has a poor previous record, was suspended for a rough conduct offence on Hawthorn skipper Sam Mitchell, while Motlop's crude bump on Western Bulldogs midfielder Shaun Higgins sees him miss two regardless of his plea also because of a poor previous record.

Adelaide's Michael Doughty (rough conduct), West Coast's Eric McKenzie (rough conduct), Carlton's Andrew Walker (front-on contact) and North Melbourne's Michael Firrito (striking) can all accept reprimands for their Round 16 indiscretions.

Three players, West Coast's Andrew Embley ($1800), Brisbane's Jack Redden ($900) and Melbourne's Jordie McKenzie ($900) have been fined for contact with umpires.
