Chris Scott: Joel Selwood hamstring no issue for Geelong

Selwood felt the soreness during the first term of Geelong's 13-point win in Alice Springs and was immediately subbed from the game as a precautionary measure, despite telling Scott he was right to play on.

"For those really, really minor hamstring concerns, scans are a waste of time," Scott told the AFL website.

"The short-term prognosis is that he'll be fine."

However, while Scott was confident Selwood's fitness isn't going to be an issue heading into Round 1, the coach may have some concerns over Billie Smedts, who was reported for making head-high contact with Demon Jimmy Toumpas during the third term.

"It's really difficult when you're spoiling and sometimes you can be unfortunate to make contact high and sort of flush, which appears might have happened," said Scott.

"But I'll defy anyone to spoil in that position and not make any contact at all."

Losing Smedts for Round 1 would be an added blow as Geelong will already be missing Nathan Vardy (ACL, season) and George Burbury (jaw) through injury.

However, there was one source for optimism for Scott as former North Melbourne ruckman Hamish McIntosh made it out on the field for the first time in 655 days for his new team.

McIntosh was limited to just 30 minutes but simply seeing him pull on a Cats jumper for the first time in anger was enough for Scott.

"How good was that? It was really good to see him out there," Scott said.

"We didn't really care how he played, to be honest, so it's a start. We know Hamish has got a long way to go, but I thought he competed really strongly for a guy that virtually hasn't played for three years."
