What happened

A couple of early goals to Corey Enright and Josh Caddy saw the Cats streak out to an early lead. The Lions were competitive in the quarter but could not stifle power forward Tom Hawkins (seven goals) as the big Cat kicked two Geelong majors in a row. A 16-point lead to the Cats flattered the home side with Brisbane having a real crack at the contest.

Lions midfielder Claye Beams drilled the first goal of the second term and from that point on, both sides went goal-for-goal five times until Hawkins steered through his fourth major in the dying stages. Geelong went into the main break 25 points up but Brisbane was still in the game due to their effort and intensity shown in the first half.

But the Cats continued to ease away from the Lions with a five-goal-to-three quarter as Hawkins wreaked havoc up forward.

Hawkins added two more goals in the last quarter as the Cats coasted to victory with one eye on next week's blockbuster qualifying final against Hawthorn.

Hope he's in my fantasy team

Joel Selwood picked up 29 disposals, kicked two goals and had nine tackles.

What's next

Geelong will take on Hawthorn in a blockbuster qualifying final at the MCG while Brisbane have shown some promising signs this year as their season comes to an end.
