Brownlow Medal Betting: The best of the Exotic Markets

16:9. Brownlow Exotc Markets Part 1

Sportingbet are offering 72 markets all up on the Brownlow Medal, most of which ignore pesky things like the suspensions that will stop players Nathan Fyfe, Tom Rockliff or Brent Harvey taking Charlie home.

Here’s some of the more interesting ones, set to make your Monday night just a little more exciting.

Winner with Handicap
One of the most popular markets is the Winner with Handicap, where players are given a certain amount of votes to start with in a bid to defeat red-hot favourite Selwood, with the Geelong skipper starting from scratch.

Most Votes Per Team
This market appears one of the more interesting ones, especially as this is a wide-open race for several teams that finished outside the top eight, sides like Melbourne and GWS.

For the Giants, influential ruckman Shane Mumford has emerged as a contender to poll the most Brownlow votes for his side even if Callan Ward remains the favourite.

“There’s been a lot of money for Shane Mumford,” said Sportingbet’s Adam Patterson.

“We had him $11, he’s now into $5. The punters are onto it a fair bit there. He (Mumford) is definitely our biggest liability in terms of a single player to win their team votes.

“But Callan Ward, we think he will get 11 votes, Adam Treloar on nine and then Devon Smith, we’ve got him quite high on eight. The games that they’ve won, Smith has produced 25-30 disposals and a couple of goals.

“We actually have Mumford on two votes so if he wins that, well done to the punters.”

Melbourne also appears in for a tight race as midfielder Nathan Jones and Dom Tyson do battle.

“Dom Tyson is now our second-worst result in team markets behind Mumford,” Patterson said.

“We opened him up at $8 and Nathan Jones at $1.10 and punters just came straight away, bringing Tyson all the way into $2.65.

“Nathan Jones, who we think is value at $1.45, he’s going to be very hard to beat. We’ve got Jones five votes ahead of Dom Tyson, with Jones 14, Tyson nine and then a big gap to Bernie Vince, who we’ve only got polling three votes for the entire year.”

Other close calls in the team votes market come from Collingwood, where Scott Pendlebury and Dayne Beams look set to fight it out, and Gold Coast.

With Ablett likely to be way out in front for most votes from the Suns, Sportingbet have removed him from this market, meaning Dion Prestia, David Swallow and Harley Bennell are right in with a chance.

“We’ve got Prestia $1.40, Swallow $4 and Bennell is probably the value there at $7,” said Patterson.

From within the top eight, Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak and Robbie Gray are among the favourites for the Power, while Lance Franklin and Josh Kennedy look likely to poll the highest amount of votes for the Swans, even if Luke Parker remains a chance.

But the hardest team to tell may just be the Bulldogs.

“We don’t have a favourite at odds on in this group,” Patterson said.

“Tom Liberatore at $2.25, we got him finishing on 10 votes. Jack Macrae, we’ve got finishing on nine votes and he’s $2.75.

“But the money’s come for Matty Boyd, $8 into $4.25. We’ve got him on six votes but other markets have him on eight to nine so anything can happen with the Dogs votes. It could be one of the good counts to see throughout the night.”

Player who polls in the most games
These players may not end up standing on stage at the end but Gillon McLachlan could still be calling out their names time and time again on Monday night.

“This player is not necessarily the winner, but a player who gets a lot of ones and twos,” Patterson said.

“So these players come into it like you’re Matty Priddis. West Coast didn’t win a lot of games but he had a consistent year, so he could get a lot of ones, same as Tom Rockliff.

“Robbie Gray is another one. We’ve taken $450 at $9 on him. Jordan Lewis again, $413, Matt Priddis a lot of support $508 dollars there.

“So that’s just blokes who sort of chip away week by week, week by week and just get ones and twos so it’s good to get a market for those guys.”
