Blue Boys: Marc Murphy stays with Carlton until 2018

Speaking on Thursday from Visy Park, coach Mick Malthouse confirmed that 26-year-old Murphy would be sticking with the Blues until the end of 2018.

"I didn't want it (signing a new contract) to hang over my head or the club's head for this season, so I think the timing of it has been great," Murphy told reporters.

"To get it over and done with before the season is very important for myself and the club."

"I feel so humbled that the club and the board have seen fit to offer me another contract.

"I'm passionate about this club, and I feel so privileged to be captain."

Murphy is set to line up against the Western Bulldogs in Friday's practice game despite not flying to Adelaide to be part of the captain's media call as part of the AFL 2014 season launch.
