Richmond defender Jake Batchelor has earned the Round 16 NAB AFL Rising Star nomination after his quality performance against Essendon on Saturday night.

Batchelor played on a number of Bombers throughout the night and finished the game with 11 kicks, 11 handballs, six marks and two tackles in the Tigers' 39-point loss.

The 19-year-old made his debut in Round 1 this season and has already notched up 13 matches in his first season at the club.

"Jake has worked really hard to get his opportunity and we have been impressed with how composed he looks at the highest level," Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said.

"He has become one of our most reliable kicks coming out of defence and is an outstanding character around the club," he said.

Recruited from the Frankston Rovers Junior Football Club and the Dandenong Stringrays, Batchelor was Richmond's second selection (No.30 overall) in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.

He is the second Tiger to be nominated for the award following Reece Conca's nomination in Round 9 - also against Essendon.
