Craig Bird - 5
Started as the sub and initially came on for Lewis Jetta at half-time under the concussion rule before officially replacing Jake Lloyd once the 20-minute period ended. Started like a rocket with four possessions in a matter of minutes but faded after that and finished with eight touches.

Harry Cunningham - 5
Wasn’t his team’s worst and actually did a decent job on Isaac Smith in the first half. But like many members of the Swans’ defence, it won’t be a day he’ll remember fondly.

Lance Franklin - 8
If it wasn’t for Franklin this could have been an absolute car crash for Sydney. Was his team’s best player as he marked strongly and ended the day with 4.2. Doing so against Hawthorn’s dogged defence was a feat in itself, especially after taking some heavy punishment in a marking contest with Brian Lake during the first term. Lake may be looked at by the MRP as his forearm came down on Buddy’s head, with Franklin also taking a knock to his shoulder during the contest but returning fire with a goal straight after.

Heath Grundy - 3
A very tough game for Grundy who came into this match under an injury cloud. No doubt, he’ll still be asking himself why he opted to spoil a ball in defence instead of marking it when he was on his own. The spoil led to Brad Hill scoring Hawthorn’s third first-quarter goal as the Hawks gained the momentum and didn’t look back.

Adam Goodes - 7
The Australian of the Year did what he could to lift his side in his 351st and potentially final game. Ended the day with two goals to his name, six inside-50s and several score assists and can hold his head high when several others can’t.

Dan Hannebery - 5
Hannebery may have finished with 20 possessions but was a shadow of his usual self after being obliterated by Jarryd Roughead in a crunching first-quarter tackle that ultimately led to the Hill goal we mentioned earlier.

Kieren Jack - 6
Finished with 18 possessions and two goals and probably could have had one more but was run down by Brian Lake during the second term. Jack was ok in this one, but his performance kind of mirrored a year where he didn’t quite stamp his authority on the competition.

Lewis Jetta - 3
Jetta was one of the heroes of 2012 but he won’t want to look back at this one at all. He had just one touch to half-time, although part of that was down to the fact he was flattened by Ben McEvoy when bravely going back with the flight into a contest. Jetta was off for 20 minutes in the third quarter under the concussion rule and ended with four touches. We’ll give him an extra point for that brave attempt to spoil.

Josh Kennedy - 7
Kennedy shone brightly as the rest of the Swans midfield was taken to the cleaners. Produced a brilliant goal on the run to kick the first for the day and finished with 29 possessions and five clearances. However, he’ll rue a passage of play in the third term when he was pressured into coughing up the ball by Will Langford, who then bounced home that unbelievable goal of his.

Jake Lloyd - 2
Tough day at the office for Jake Lloyd who was subbed out late in the third quarter with 11 possessions. Still, playing in a Grand Final in your 21st game will surely give you some belief and experience.

Nick Malceski - 8
An absolute belter of a game for Malceski who showed he was well and truly over that hamstring injury from the first final. In an under-siege defence he was the rock that kept them from being completely destroyed in the first quarter as he rebounded with intent and set up several goals. Had nine first-quarter possessions and 17 to half-time. He was also involved in one of the day’s more amusing moments when he attempted a quick kick-in, only to be stopped by the umpire. “Nick you have to take the ball back to the bucket,” said the man in green!

Ben McGlynn - 6
Kicked a brilliant goal to start the second term that initially looked to be keeping the Swans in it, but it was all downhill for them after that. Tried hard and won four clearances.

Jarrad McVeigh - 3
It would be interesting to know if Jarrad McVeigh is carrying an injury. If he isn’t he may have reached the end as he posted just five touches to half-time today and only 11 for the game. For a big-game player this simply wasn’t good enough. Indeed, McVeigh got those figures and more in a quarter against Carlton last year.

Luke Parker - 5
Produced 20 possessions but his accuracy let him down.

Mike Pyke – 3
Won the ruck with 32 hit-outs but the hero of 2012 was ineffectual here.

Dane Rampe - 3
Had a shocker here and his best effort was accidentally kneeing Luke Breust in the head.

Sam Reid - 3
The Swans took a selection gamble with Reid and it clearly didn’t pay off as he had no impact on the contest whatsoever.

Ted Richards - 3
Took a big mark early in the game but couldn’t get into the contest as he was part of an under-siege defence.

Gary Rohan - 2
Rohan may have made himself trade bait with this performance as he clearly struggles under real pressure. Had a shocker against Freo but looked to have turned the corner with the game of his life last week against a lacklustre North. But here, he had just one touch in the first half.

Rhyce Shaw - 6
Shaw must have thought it was 2003 and he was playing for Collingwood again. Indeed it was a similar scenario. In that game, the Pies were actually narrow favourites against Brisbane and got destroyed and the same happened here again. At least, Shaw could hold his head high with 26 possessions as he attempted to clear from defence.

Nick Smith - 4
He may have earned a place in the All Australian side but had a tough game here.

Kurt Tippett – 5

Tippett started the game on fire and looked in for an absolute blinder. But things got worse from there as Rioli pressured him into two mistakes while Brian Lake used him as a step-ladder. Tippett did get one back on Lake with a brilliantly brave mark soon after that, but that he’ll want to put this game to bed pretty quickly!
