With the bottom tie of the MCC Members Stand full of people, the service began with MC Eddie McGuire saying: "Tommy Hafey didn't have time to fear death, he was too busy living life,"
Hafey's granddaughter Samantha sang 'Dream a little dream' and Hafey's brother Peter detailed some of the major moments in his life outside of AFL. More of Hafey's family also recounted their own experiences with the great man.
Kevin Bartlett talked about his 50-year relationship with Hafey and Michael Green, another of Hafey's former charges, recited the Lord's Prayer.
McGuire then thanked all those for attending and his casket was given one final lap of th MCG.
