Ablett loses faves tag

Gary Ablett's dip in form has seen the Geelong superstar lose his tag as Brownlow Medal favourite with several bookmakers.

Ablett has been as short as $2.50 with bookies this year as he bids to become the first player since Robert Harvey to win back-to-back awards for the AFL's best and fairest player.

But a couple of tough games, including last Friday's performance against Adelaide where he had a season-low 19 disposals - only the second time he has dipped below 30 for a game this season - has seen his odds blow out significantly.

Growing speculation about a possible move to Gold Coast has been cited as one reason the two-time premiership winner has gone off the boil.

Regardless of the reasons, bookmakers have now installed Hawthorn's Luke Hodge as favourite, with Sportsbet.com.au bringing Hodge into $4.50, ahead of Ablett who is now $5.50, while Collingwood's Dane Swan is a $6 chance.

On Sportingbet, Hodge is even shorter after his 39-possession effort against Brisbane on Saturday. They have him at $4 with Ablett $5.50 and Swan at $7.

On betting exchange Betfair, Ablett is now $6.80 after reaching a price of $2.58 earlier in the season. Hodge, who was matched at odds of better than $50 earlier in the season, is $5.50.

Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt remains a vice-like grip on Coleman Medal favouritism despite managing three goals against North Melbourne on the weekend.

Riewoldt, who is $1.45 with Sportsbet to become the first Richmond player to win the Coleman Medal since 1981, is seven goals clear of the Bulldogs Barry Hall ($3.75), who missed the trip to Darwin with an ankle injury but will play against Fremantle on Sunday.

West Coast's Mark LeCras, who kicked 12 goals against Essendon on Saturday night, may have jumped up to third in the medal race with 50 goals, but is still considered a $13 chance to win the goalkicking award.
