2015 AFL Grand Final officially hottest on record

While Hawthorn’s brilliance across a number of years caused most of the records to tumble in the last game of the season, one record that no one had any control of was the temperature.

Melbourne sweltered through its hottest-ever AFL Grand Final, with the mercury hitting 31.1 degrees at 3.28pm - during the second quarter of the clash between the Eagles, and eventual premiers Hawthorn.

Funnily enough, it was Hawthorn who was involved in the Grand Final that previously held the record for the hottest on record - 30.7 degrees in 1987.

The Hawks would go on to lose that game to the Blues, and while many of those who donned the brown and gold on that day almost three decades ago suggest that it had a massive impact on the result, there was no clear sign that the weather had any influence this time around.

Many had predicted West Coast to adapt to the conditions better considering the climate in the West, but this adaptation did not eventuate as Hawthorn ran out 46-point winners on the day.
