A promising left-footed midfielder who played his junior football with Bullcreek Leeming Football Club in Western Australia, Palmer was a pivotal member of his state's victorious 2007 AFL Under 18 Championship side, averaging a solid 32 disposals and three goals per game. Selected at No.7 in the 2007 draft by Fremantle, he chimed in with an impressive performance in the 2008 NAB Cup however would need to wait until Round 2 of the same year to make his AFL debut against Hawthorn. Starring for the Dockers in his first season at the club, Palmer went on to take out the AFLPA Best First Year Player as well as being crowned the 2008 AFL AFL Rising Star, beating Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli. Missed the entire 2009 season because of a knee reconstruction and is relishing a fresh start at the AFL's newest franchise.
