As hard as they come, Maxwell leads by example with his fierce courage across half-back and his ability to read play superbly. Entering his eighth year at Collingwood, the skipper is not afraid to put his body on the line for a 50/50 contest, with his last ditch lunge on a tearaway Nick Riewoldt in the closing stages of the drawn Grand Final testament to his never-say-die approach. Will be keen to make amends after an injury-plagued 2011 which saw him suffer ruptured kidneys, a broken thumb and a cracked knuckle in the line of duty. One of the truly respected leaders in the game.
