They say: "Overall we are pleased with the 2012 fixture, and I think that our members and supporters will be happy with it too. We have a good mix with our home games, have been treated fairly with interstate games and also a good balance of playing Victorian and interstate teams at Simonds Stadium. The fixture is not an easy proposition for the AFL, with so many requests from the club. What we are looking for is a fairness and balance, and I think they have achieved that." - CEO Brian Cook.
We say: Geelong will need to wait until Round 4 to unfurl the 2011 premiership flag against the Tigers in the first of their seven games at Simonds (formerly Skilled) Stadium. By that time the Cats will have played Freo away, the Hawks at the MCG on Easter Monday and North in the 'Battle of the Twins'. The 2011 grand final re-match is set down for Friday night at the MCG in Round 8, and there's a reprise with the Pies in Round 16, also at the 'G'. Hawthorn and the Swans are the other finals sides from 2011 the Cats are drawn to play twice. Geelong feature eight times on Friday night in 2012.
