Carlton utility Jarrad Waite has signed a new three-year deal that will almost certainly ensure he remains a one-club player.
The Blues were initially reluctant to offer a long-term deal because of doubts over Waite's durability.
The 28-year-old has only managed to string together 37 games over the past three seasons including just 12 in 2011 for a career total of 143 since 2003.
The club was understood to have preferred a two-year deal before agreeing to three.
"We are delighted that Jarrad has re-committed to the Blues," said CEO Greg Swann.
"He has been a vital member of our team for a long time now and we see him playing an important part in our future."
"Jarrad is a fantastic clubman."
"While he has had an injury-interrupted couple of seasons, his attitude around the club has been fantastic and he has already been working hard to ensure he enters the 2012 season fit and raring to go."
Waite said he was looking forward to the kind of success his father Vin, a dual premiership player, enjoyed at Carlton.
"It's an exciting time to be a part of the club," said Waite.
"We've committed to being a top four side in 2012 and I want to ensure I play an important role."
"I have a deep connection to the Carlton Football Club and with premiership success within reach it was an easy decision to re-commit."
Waite was chosen with a father-son selection in the third round of the 2001 AFL national draft, number 46 overall.
