North Melbourne have staved off interest from expansion club Greater Western Sydney to re-sign key defender Scott Thompson.
The 25-year-old gave the Kangaroos a major post-season boost by agreeing to a new three-year deal.
North Melbourne chief of football Donald McDonald couldn't hide his delight at having Thompson's signature.
"We're rapt to have completed this new deal with Scott," McDonald told the club's website.
"He has become an integral part of our backline and we look forward to seeing his continued development and growth as a footballer in the years to come."
Thompson averaged 18 possessions a game in 2011 and has played 72 matches since being taken with pick 37 in the 2007 national draft.
He joins captain Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Aaron Edwards, Scott McMahon, Jamie Macmillan and Cam Pedersen as North players to sign new deals in 2011.
