Swan fine despite fight

Swan fine despite fight

07/19/2010 11:11:15 PM

Collingwood expects Dane Swan to be fit and ready to take on Richmond at the MCG on Saturday despite having his teeth damaged in a nightclub altercation on Saturday night.

The club said it has cleared Swan of any wrongdoing over the incident which it said was an unprovoked attack.

"Dane was struck in the mouth by an individual he’d never met before, causing minor damage to his teeth," the club statement said.

"As required Dane left the scene immediately, contacted the club and returned home. The dentist who attended to Dane has advised the club that the treatment Dane received will in no way impact on his ability to train or play."

The club said that despite the violent nature of the incident, it will not be taking the matter any further.

Swan has had another fantastic season for Collingwood as is currently considered a $6 third favourite to win the Brownlow Medal.

Coack Mick Malthouse told SEN radio he was happy with the way Swan handled the incident.

"These thugs take a swing at anyone - whether it's their five minutes of glory, whether it's the drugs, whether they're tanked up... very well done," Malthouse said.
