Joel Selwood has been named Geelong captain for 2012 as the reigning premiers aim for their fourth flag in six years.
Tough midfielder Selwood, who will be just 24 in May, was awarded the captaincy following a vote by his team-mates, which was approved by the Geelong board on Friday morning.
Selwood will take over from the retired Cameron Ling, who was one of several veteran Cats to hang up the boots last season following their 38-point Grand Final victory over Collingwood.
Having made his debut in Geelong's famous 2007 season, Selwood has played 114 matches for the Cats, including three premierships, and has an average of 25.4 possessions per game.
Jimmy Bartel has also been named the club's vice-captain for 2012.
