Saints v Bulldogs - snippets

STAR MAN: For the third time in his career, Jason Akermanis bagged a career-best six goals. He also had 24 touches and 12 marks and was in the thick of things even when the Bulldogs were under pressure early.

TURNING POINT: Akermanis' second quarter when he had 11 touches and three goals turned the game around for the Bulldogs. Midway through the term, only 2.2 had been scored - all from Aker's boot.

WHAT A GOAL! With Leigh Montagna in pursuit, Daniel Giansiracusa turned the clock back when he launched a barrel from the centre square. The spin on the torpedo was not from the text book but it had the desired result.

ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: The Saints managed just two goals from the 22-minute mark of the first quarter to the seven-minute mark of the fourth during which their forward line was impotent.

UNSUNG HERO: Not usually noted for his subtlety, Will Minson showed deft touch when he backhanded the ball into Akermanis' path for a goal in the second quarter. Minson didn't get rewarded on the stat sheet but his work was recognised by his team-mates who rushed over to congratulate him for the goal.
