Power v Demons, snippets

TURNING POINT: Port Adelaide set up the victory with a 6.6 to 1.0 first quarter. But it was the Power's two majors in three minutes, after a 10 minute arm-wrestle to start the second term, that broke Melbourne's spirit. The margin ballooned out to 47 points and the visitors hardly put up a fight after that point.

CLASSIC GRAB: Midway through the second term Melbourne was 47 points down and in need of some inspiration. They found it in the form of Cameron Bruce. Running with the flight of the ball, Bruce jumped into the side of Peter Burgoyne and took a clean catch in the goal square. He then kicked a major and gave his side some hope of getting back into the contest.

STAR MAN: Peter Burgoyne has had a poor second half to the season and there's been rumours the premiership player was on the chopping block if he didn't perform in the last two games of the season. He responded to the pressure with a best-on-ground performance in the midfield. He collected 37 possessions, kicked two goals and importantly boosted his confidence heading into the final match of the season.

ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: It's been a tough season for Port Adelaide supporters but the club would have been disappointed that only 18,875 of them bothered to turn up for the Power's final home game. The match started in bright sunshine and was a showcase of some of Port's emerging talent, which should've been a drawcard for diehard fans.

WHAT A GOAL! Austin Wonaeamirri scored a classic crumbing goal five minutes in the second half. The former Norwood player collected the ball off the back of the pack and quickly snapped the ball with his left foot from 10 metres out.

UNSUNG HERO: Kane Cornes continued his consistent season with another high possession game. He collected nine kicks and 23 handballs and was often the link man in the Power's midfield plays.
