Geelong veteran Darren Milburn has confirmed his retirement from the AFL after a stellar 15-year career with the Cats.
The two-time premiership player finished up with 292 games, but his career ended on a disappointing note when he was overlooked for the Cats' 2011 finals series.
His sits third on the club's all-time games list, eight behind John 'Sammy' Newman (300) and 33 behind Ian Nakervis (325).
The reliable defender was typically thankful to the Cats and the opportunity they gave him.
"The club is very different today than when I arrived, and the growth on and off the field is something that everyone associated with the club should be proud of," the 34-year-old said.
"I am grateful to my team-mates, coaches and everyone that has been with the club during my time here. The supporters have always been behind me and the team and that has made it a fantastic experience."
"I will take away great memories that I have been able to share with my closest friends. The club is set up for the future with many new players about to come through, and I wish everyone here from Chris Scott and the players to all the staff the very best for future success."
"Finally and most importantly, I want to thank my family for their amazing support over the journey. They have always been there supporting me in the great and not so great times," he said.
Milburn is one of just three current Geelong players to have played under the club's last three coaches, along with best mate Matthew Scarlett and David Wojcinski.
Coach Chris Scott paid tribute to Milburn and wished him all the best for the future.
"Darren has been one of the greats of the club over a long period of time," Scott said.
"I always had the utmost respect for him as an opponent, and I have even more respect for him now having coached him this year. He always put the team first and that continued through the season. Whatever role we asked Dasher to fill, he did."
"Dasher lived the team ethos and has left a legacy for other to follow. Whatever the future holds for him, I'm sure that 'Dasher' will be successful."
Milburn made his debut in 1997 and kicked a total of 94 goals in his career, while his 21 finals appearances are the equal-most by any Geelong player.
Milburn is one of three senior Cats to retire this year, along with Cameron Mooney and captain Cameron Ling, while fellow veterans Brad Ottens and Wojcinski look set to play on for another season.
