Magpies v Crows - snippets

TURNING POINT: Adelaide's forward line had looked dangerous all day, with Brett Burton causing havoc with four goals to half time. But when the star forward's knee buckled whilst on a seemingly innocuous lead, he was left writhing on the ground in pain. Burton would play no further part, and the Crows would manage just three more goals for the game.

CLASSIC GRAB: The Crows were under siege midway through the third quarter, but managed to squeeze a high kick out of defence. Graham Johncock could only wait under the ball on the halfback flank, before Harry O'Brien leapt on to his shoulders and took a genuine screamer.

STAR MAN: Paul Medhurst has been a revelation this season for the Pies in his second year at the club. The former Docker is the clubs top goalscorer in 2008 and bagged another five today. While it could have been more had he kicked straight, Collingwood won't need any reassuring that they got the better end of that trade deal.

ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: If there was an award for missing a goal by the furthest distance, Rhys Shaw would have it sewn up. The Collingwood winger was running around the boundary line towards an open goal and lined up his banana kick from five metres out. But instead of sailing through as planned, the ball ended up being picked up on the opposite flank some fifty metres away!

WHAT A GOAL! You never know what to expect when Paul Medhurst is shooting on goal. After missing the goal he should have kicked, after hitting the post from ten metres out, he then kicked the impossible goal. Tucked up on the boundary line on the wrong side for a right footer, Medhurst slotted the goal from 50 out and brought the Pies storming back into the contest.

UNSUNG HERO: Rhys Shaw has been often maligned for his questionable skills, but no one could question his value to the Collingwood side today. The pacy winger finished with 32 possessions, four clearances, three inside 50s and a goal in a brilliant performance.
