Sydney have extended coach John Longmire's contract until the end of 2014 and taken the extraordinary step of re-signing young gun Sam Reid for another five seasons.
Longmire guided the Swans into the finals in his first season in charge after taking over from 2005 premiership coach Paul Roos, beating the Saints first-up at Etihad Stadium before exiting at the hands of the Hawks in a semi-final.
But it is the length of Reid's new deal that is sure to surprise neutral observers, with the 19-year-old now tied to the club until the end of 2017.
"Sam is certainly one of the most exciting key-position prospects that has come through the club in my time," Longmire said.
"Centre-half-forward is one of the toughest positions on the ground to play."
"To do it like Sam did this season, as a 19-year-old, just shows the potential he has to have a long and successful career at this football club."
Reid took huge steps forward in his development in 2011, playing all but one game as he was nominated for the AFL's Rising Star award, won Sydney's equivalent and led the club in contested marks.
"In the end it was a decision about enjoying my footy," said Reid, who is originally from Bright in country Victoria and is the younger brother of Collingwood's Ben Reid.
"I enjoy the lifestyle here in Sydney and I have a great group of team-mates and coaches here at the Swans."
"I've really enjoyed my first two seasons here at the club and I look forward to playing some good footy in the red and white for years to come."
Sydney chief executive Andrew Ireland was delighted to have Longmire show his commitment to the club.
"John settled quickly into his new role which made for a very smooth transition for everyone at the club," Ireland said.
"He has a wonderful work ethic and strong relationships with players, staff and external stakeholders and we are really happy with the job he has done so far."
"We are very pleased that John has agreed to extend his contract."
"We believe we have a promising list and that John is the right person to guide the Swans as we enter a new era in Sydney and in the AFL."
