Lions v Hawks - snippets
TURNING POINT: The margin rarely reached double figures all night. So, when Lance Franklin's sixth and seventh goals were followed by a major to Mark Williams to kick-start the last quarter, the 21-point lead proved just too much for the Lions to erase.
CLASSIC GRAB: Took a while, but this was definitely worth waiting for. Hawthorn forward pocket Mark Williams launched himself at a high ball from Roughead in the goal square to drag in one of the marks of the season over Colm Begley.
STAR MAN: Defenders are crucial, but crowds love the men who boot goals. Arguably the brightest star in the game, Lance Franklin, nailed eight while at the other end Daniel Bradshaw kicked seven.
WHAT A GOAL! A few to choose from with 36 goals on the night, but none more mind-blowing than Lance Franklin's sixth. He stayed down as his partner in crime Jarryd Roughead flew, plucked the loose ball off the pack and dribbled through the first six-pointer of the last quarter from the tightest of angles.
ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: Hard to find one. But when Jared Brennan, under no pressure in the Lions' defensive 50, kicked a mid-distance ball that hit Hawk Tim Clarke on the chest, there was a grimace or two in the Brisbane coaching box. It got worse when Clarke dished to Rick Ladson, who hit the deadly Mark Williams on the chest within range. Glasses down, along with Brennan's head.
UNSUNG HERO: Troy Selwood's numbers don't suggest a big night, but in his 50th game for the Lions he was one of their best. He held Hawthorn dynamo Luke Hodge to 18 possessions in a determined display.
