Kangaroos v Demons - snippets
Star Man
Joint second in the Brownlow Medal last year, Brent Harvey has made a strong start to the new season and was clearly best afield against the Demons. Having been his team's best in the loss to Hawthorn a week earlier, Harvey was at it again and should have claimed his second three-vote performance in as many games against Melbourne after also winning the nod last year.
Classic Grab
There wasn't really a single mark that stood out but several strong grabs by spring-heeled Kangaroos forward Aaron Edwards. Unlucky to have missed mark of the year in 2007 because his hanger against Hawthorn came in the finals, Edwards loves nothing more than having room to fly hard at a pack from behind and come down with the contested mark, and did so several times during the game.
What a Goal!
Daniel Wells was heavily criticised after the Round 1 loss to Essendon for his poor game but there was no questioning his commitment on the wing during the third quarter when he dived at a loose ball with a superb second effort after Harvey's short kick had dropped short, beating three opponents to the ball and knocking it forward to advantage, with the goal eventually kicked by Lindsay Thomas.
Absolute Shocker
In the last term, the game may have already been all but over but, in the opening minute, Melbourne had the chance to kick a goal when a chain of handballs was to have finished with Russell Robertson close to the goal square. Unfortunately for the Demons the final ball from Neitz didn't find the target and the Roos forced the behind.
Unsung Hero
In his second season of league football, small forward Matt Campbell grows in stature by the week. After an encouraging start to the year, Campbell was at his lively best against the Demons, not only chasing hard to put pressure on every time the opposition had the ball - and causing several turnovers - but also using his creativity to advantage and crumbing well for a couple of goals.
