Brisbane Lions national talent manager Rob Kerr says there is a 'significant gulf' between what the club wants for homesick big man Mitch Clark and Fremantle's offer of pick 16 in the national draft.
And Kerr didn't rule out either doing a deal with West Coast or the possibility that Clark could in fact remain at the Gabba in 2012.
Clark told the Lions at the end of the season that he wants to return to his home state of Western Australia, with Fremantle his preferred destination.
But Kerr said following the completion of initial meetings between the AFL's 18 clubs at Etihad Stadium on Monday that the Dockers will have to up their offer significantly to get a deal done.
"It'd be fair to say there was next to no movement with Mitch Clark today," Kerr said.
"So probably I think we value Mitch in a different way than to what Fremantle values him at this stage."
"The gulf (between the two clubs) is significant yes."
"We feel we've put a fair position but it takes two to negotiate and we haven't seen much sign of that."
"Pick 16 in this draft when you're talking about a player of the quality of Mitch is probably not enough."
Kerr confirmed that the club had also spoken to the Eagles about Clark.
"(We) spoke to West Coast (and) West Coast maintained some interest so there's obviously a fair amount of discussion to be continued on for the remainder of the trade period," he added.
"I would say that West Coast have been much more reasonable at this point in time."
Kerr was also happy to entertain the thought that Clark may remain with the club.
"The request we got was to go home to Western Australia and we said to Mitch that if it was possible to do a deal we'd allow that to happen but the key is that a deal has got to be done," Kerr said.
"If a deal is not done then Mitch is a required player at Brisbane and we'll be doing our best to retain him from then on."
"Well at this stage you'd have to say it's a reasonable possibility (Clark will stay)."
Kerr also all but ruled out making a play for Adelaide big man Kurt Tippett, who is a Gold Coast native, while Crows list manager David Noble insisted Tippett will be going nowhere.
"No, Kurt's not on the table, we've made that quite clear, Kurt's not on the table," Noble said.
