Veteran forward Brendan Fevola's management has been approached by a Melbourne-based club with a view to throwing him a lifeline while GWS have ruled out any play for St Kilda star Brendon Goddard.
Fevola has been without a club since being dumped by the Brisbane Lions early this year following a stint in rehab as he dealt with his alcohol and gambling addictions.
But, having impressed with his performances for Casey Scorpions in the second half of the VFL season, the former Carlton spearhead is hoping to be given another chance.
And the 30-year-old, who has kicked 623 goals in 204 games, told Trade Week Radio that he is willing to play for minimum wage in order to try and revive his AFL career.
"It's obviously very raw at the moment," Fevola said.
"I've obviously got no value, which is great for a footy club."
"I can go there as a rookie and play as a senior rookie, do my time in the twos and if a spot came up in the ones I'd be jumping at the bit to take that opportunity."
"The main objective is to just play footy and if I get on a list I'm pretty confident in my own ability that I could prove myself and get on to a senior list pretty quickly."
While Fevola wants another crack at the AFL because of the 'circumstances' of his departure from Brisbane, Greater Western Sydney list manager Stephen Silvagni has insisted Goddard won't be a giant in 2012.
Instead, according to Silvagni the club will be hanging onto the top five picks in next month's national draft and nine of the first 11.
"I can put that to bed, that is not a possibility," Silvagni told Trade Week Radio when asked about Goddard, with speculation they would offer some of their early draft picks for him.
"We've had a clear view, a clear plan of what we wanted to get through the door."
"Obviously, we had priorities and we've ticked them off along the way, so we think that'd probably be it for us."
"As it stands at the minute we're certainly going to try and hold on to those picks."
North Melbourne have also ruled out a move for disgruntled Melbourne small forward Addam Maric even though the Demons had said on Thursday they expected to complete a trade within 48 hours.
Kangaroos football manager Donald McDonald said there will be no trade for Maric but said he may yet train with the club over summer with a view to being rookie-listed.
And McDonald also denied there would be any move for Hawthorn's Clinton Young but there are reports that Young's team-mate Will Sierakowski has been traded to Arden Street for pick 58.
