Former champion Chris Grant was elected to the Western Bulldogs board at the club's annual meeting on Monday night.
Grant joins the board as football director and was elected unopposed to the position vacated by long-term board director Henry Jolson QC who has retired.
"Chris' experience, leadership and love of our club make him an impressive candidate for football director," president David Smorgon said.
A former captain, Grant played 341 games for the Dogs in a career that spanned 18 seasons.
He was a key player in the club's selection sub-committee that was convened in August to find a new coach following Rodney Eade's sacking.
"I was involved in the selection committee for the new senior coach and I think it gave me a passion back for getting involved in the football club and whilst it is a different position than I've ever held at a club before I am really excited about it," Grant said.
"I think it's a great opportunity with a new senior coach and a new direction with a great group of players, to get involved and get behind the club."
Current board director Gaye Hamilton, chairman of SpiritWest Advisory Board and Victoria University Advisory Board Member was also re-elected as the community director.
The club also awarded life memberships to six people including current player Dale Morris, cheer squad leaders, Dave Porter, Gary Munn, trainer Kim Smalley, past staff member Barry McDonald and directors Ian Veal and Henry Jolson QC.
