Fremantle has stunned the highly fancied Hawthorn, the Dockers winning just the second final in the club's history through a 30-point elimination-final victory over the Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
Despite a limited performance by Aaron Sandilands after the giant ruckman hurt his knee in the first term at Subiaco, the Dockers applied some intense pressure to prevail against an inaccurate Hawthorn, who never really looked in the contest.
The Hawks were down to 21 men themselves after Cyril Rioli injured his hamstring before half-time, but the Hawks only had themselves to blame for some shocking kicking at goal as they booted just one major in the first half, finishing 8.16 (64) to Fremantle's 14.10 (94).
Hawthorn's goalkicking issues shouldn't take anything away from a brave young Dockers' side featuring 10 first and second-year players.
Whenever, Hawthorn looked like challenging in the second and third terms, a Docker would pop up at the right time to score a goal against the run of play and arrest any momentum.
David Mundy produced a sizzling performance with 25 possessions and one goal, the midfielder at his best in the third term as his nine possessions helped the Dockers kick six goals in the premiership quarter as Fremantle led by 42 at three-quarter-time.
Although Hawthorn produced a late flourish to finish with four last-quarter goals, their efforts were stymied by some quality defensive possessions from Stephen Hill, who finished with 22 touches.
Although Dockers' youngsters, like Hill and Anthony Morabito (17 disposals) were good, Fremantle's older brigade really stood tall as well, with Luke McPharlin blanketing Lance Franklin, keeping him to just two goals, while Adam McPhee limited an underdone Luke Hodge to just 13 disposals and no influence.
For the Hawks, Jarryd Roughead overcome some early goalkicking issues to finish with four, all in the second half, while Sam Mitchell posted 34 disposals as he and Shaun Burgoyne (28) worked hard in the midfield.
But despite the Dockers not enjoying the luxury of utilising Sandilands in the centre square, they've still booked themselves a semi-final clash with Geelong at the MCG next Friday night, their effort totally vindicating coach Mark Harvey's decision to rest seven players for a 116-point belting by the Hawks in Round 21.
In contrast to their efforts in Launceston, the Dockers took the contest to Hawthorn from the outset, Fremantle applying some intense pressure as they drove the ball forward.
The Hawks looked like they had weathered the storm until the Dockers fired off three goals in an eight-minute burst to finish the first quarter.
It all started with a brilliant series of handballs in close that finally released Morabito down the northern flank, the youngster taking three bounces and kicking truly as Sandilands applied a great shepherd on Rick Ladson.
A booming goal from beyond 50 by Sandilands, followed by a Chris Mayne major allowed the Dockers to take a 17-point lead into the first break but there were some concerns in the Fremantle camp after Sandilands knocked his knee against Wade Skipper's shin.
The Hawks dominated the majority of the second quarter, but simply couldn't put any scoreboard pressure on as they booted seven behinds for the term, despite posting 15 inside-50s to just eight.
The rot started in just the second minute when Brent Renouf lazily snapped across his body to kick a point when he had more time, while even class players like Hodge missed gettable set shots.
To make matters worse, a dashing Rioli run down the wing finished with the Hawks young gun clutching at his hamstring, finished for the day, while Xavier Ellis hurt his ankle moments later and only returned late in the third quarter.
Against the run of play, the Dockers made their own forward entries count by booting two goals to extend the lead to 23 points at the main break, with Roughead badly missing a set shot after the siren from 35 metres.
The Dockers may have opened the third term with three of the first four goals, Hawthorn's major to Roughead being their first in 51 minutes. But the Hawks stormed back into contention with consecutive goals to Franklin and Roughead to shrink the margin to just 22 points midway through the term.
Against the run of play, a McPhee snap from heavy congestion stemmed the flow and the Dockers maintained the momentum through majors to Pavlich and Mundy as the they went into the final break 42 points ahead.
And, although the Hawks returned fire with four goals to two in the final term, the Dockers were never seriously threatened as they booked a Friday night date with Geelong.
