Collingwood veteran Alan Didak will be sidelined for at least a month after tearing his adductor muscle at training on Monday.
It's a significant blow for the 29-year-old who had reportedly benefitted from an otherwise strong pre-season after he was dogged by injury and poor form last season.
"Alan has torn his adductor muscle and will miss the next four weeks," Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh told the Magpies website.
"He has had scans to confirm the injury and now will go through a rehab schedule to hopefully get him back and ready for round one of the home and away season," he said.
The injury is also likely to hinder his preparations for the opening rounds of the season.
Collingwood play Western Bulldogs and Greater Western Sydney in the first round of the NAB Cup on February 18 before taking on Melbourne in the second round of the pre-season on March 3.
