Cousins out of hospital

03/16/2010 01:47:03 AM

Ben Cousins was discharged from Epworth Hospital in Melbourne on Tuesday morning but it still remains to be seen whether the Richmond star will play in the Tigers' season opener against Carlton on March 25.

Cousins was twice admitted to the Epworth in the past week complaining of acute stomach pains.

The former West Coast captain underwent further tests, of which the results won't be known 'for several days' according to a Richmond media release.

However, the club is hopeful that Cousins will return to training within the next few days.

Richmond also denied a report in The Age that the self-confessed drug addict had been spoken to about curbing an apparent binge-drinking problem but stopped short of refuting that Cousins did in fact have an issue with alcohol.

The 2005 Brownlow Medalist was initially diagnosed with 'slight gastric inflammation'.
