Coad season in doubt

Gold Coast have lost mature age recruit Michael Coad for the better part of three months after a scan revealed he has torn his hamstring from the bone.
The 27-year-old defender suffered the injury late in Sunday's 90-point loss to Melbourne and will undergo surgery to re-attach the tendon, meaning a 12-15 week absence from the game.
Coach Guy McKenna described the injury as a bitter blow for the former SANFL defender who has played all three games to date.
"Coady now is probably going to miss up to 12 weeks, he has to have his hamstring re-attached to the bone. It will need to be surgically repaired, it is a nasty one," he said.
McKenna questioned whether Coad would be able to make it back on the field this year given the serious nature of the injury, which occurred after he returned to the field having suffered cramp.
"I know he's a mature boy but he's really only done one pre-season of footy. To miss 12 weeks is a blow. But if we get him back at the end of the season, we will hold that candle for him and make sure that's his goal."
"But this history is probably against him, that's for sure."
