Key forward Mitch Clark wants out of the Brisbane Lions.
The 23-year-old requested a trade when he met with Lions officials last weekend with Fremantle his preferred destination.
Lions general manager of football operations Dean Warren declared the club are prepared to play hard ball to get a desired result.
"Mitch informed the club over the weekend of his desire to return to WA and we understand the reasons behind his request," Warren said.
"While we are extremely disappointed to lose an athlete with Mitch's attributes, we will now work towards getting the greatest possible outcome for the Lions, should a trade be able to be achieved."
Clark was Brisbane's leading goalkicker in 2011 with 27 goals and played 82 games with the club since being taken with the ninth pick of the 2005 national draft.
The Lions also confirmed they had delisted five players headlined by injury-prone Xavier Clarke.
The Darwin product played just one game during his two seasons in Brisbane, meaning his AFL career is surely over after 106 games.
Matt Austin joined Clarke as senior listed players to be axed, while rookies Broc McCauley, Bart McCulloch and Donald Barry were also cut.
Ruckman McCauley was the only one of that trio to feature at senior level, playing three games in 2011.
Meanwhile Adelaide confirmed they stripped young forward Jack Gunston of the club's best first or second-year player award after he quit the club on the eve of their presentation night.
Crows chief executive Steven Trigg said Adelaide were "within five minutes" of finalising a new deal with Gunston on Thursday. But Gunston "walked in at 11am saying he was on a 2pm flight home".
Gunston has played 14 games (12 this season) after being a second-round draft pick (No.29) in 2009.
It was reported he wants to return home to play in Victoria.
