Cats v Dockers - snippets
STAR MAN: Last year's Rising Star winner Joel Selwood mustn't have had a shower on Saturday morning because it was very rare that he had a Fremantle opponent by his side. Selwood was outstanding all day, picking up 12 possessions in the first quarter and finishing with 13 in the last for a total of 35 for the afternoon. He also laid four tackles, had three inside 50s and kicked a goal in a dominant display, leading coach Mark Thompson to describe him as 'an A-grade player'.
TURNING POINT: The Dockers led by a goal after 11 minutes but that was about the only source of joy they had all day. The Cats led by 13 points at quarter-time, 33 at half-time and 51 at the final change before running out comfortable 74-point winners.
WHAT A GOAL! With goals hard to come by in a dour first half, Travis Varcoe delivered a beauty when he picked up a loose ball between two Fremantle defenders on the 50m line and snapped on his right boot.
ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: Fiery defender Dean Solomon's season - and by extension, his career - could be over after delivering a crude elbow to the jaw of Cameron Ling midway through the first quarter. The former Essendon premiership player was immediately placed on report and was roundly booed every time he went near the ball for the remainder of the match.
UNSUNG HERO: Corey Enright stepped up in Gary Ablett's absence to play one of his best games in the blue-and-white hoops. Playing on the wing and through the middle, Enright gathered 37 touches and kicked two goals in a performance that would have given coach Mark Thompson cause to play him in the centre more often.
