Bulldogs v Swans, snippets

STAR MAN: Jarrad McVeigh's game will go down as one of the best by a player in 2008. He finished with six goals and 26 disposals but could not carry his team over the line.

TURNING POINT: After kicking only one goal to the Dogs' eight in the second quarter, the Swans worked their way back into the match in the third term. But five missed set shots in front of goal ruined the Swans' challenge.

ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: Heath Grundy put Lewis Roberts-Thomson under enormous pressure with his sloppy squaring kick from defence. Lindsay Gilbee made the interception, handballing to Mitch Hahn, who goaled from metres out.

CLASSIC GRAB Luke Brennan split the pack when he leapt with purpose to mark strongly in the third quarter. But as is often the case, he missed the ensuing set shot from only 20 metres out.

UNSUNG HERO: In his first game of the season, Jared Crouch was reunited with Jason Akermanis. Again Crouch drove the out-of-form Akermanis crazy, limiting the star Bulldog and former Lion to only 11 touches.
