Axed Gold Coast forward Nathan Ablett has lodged a surprise nomination for next week's 2011 AFL national draft.
Ablett unsuccessfully attempted to resurrect his career with the Suns after a three-year sabbatical following his initial 32-game stint with Geelong which included the 2007 premiership.
The 25-year-old managed just two appearances with Gold Coast late in the 2011 season, playing alongside his champion brother, Gary.
After initially walking out on the Cats because of his indifference about playing at the top level, Ablett is now seemingly keen to extend his AFL career and will be searching for a third home at next week's draft.
Other notable delisted players to nominate for the draft ahead of Friday's deadline were Brendan Fevola (Brisbane Lions), Setanta O'hAilpin (Carlton), Paul Bevan (Sydney), Daniel Pratt (North Melbourne), Brad Dick (Collingwood), Ryan Gamble (St Kilda), Andrew McQualter (St Kilda), Jason Davenport (Port Adelaide), Austin Wonaeamirri (Melbourne) and Ben Nason (Richmond).
