Sydney Swans have continued their push for a top-four berth and heaped further misery on Port Adelaide with a 62-point win at the SCG on Saturday night.
The Swans shrugged off a listless first half to run away with the game and were well led by rugged on-baller Jude Bolton who racked up 33 disposals and a goal in the 18.13 (121) to 9.5 (59) win.
Young key-forward prospect Sam Reid kicked three goals for the Swans, superstar Adam Goodes had 27 touches and kicked two goals while Josh Kennedy finished with 31 disposals and two goals.
After Port kicked the opening two goals of the game, Sydney took control halfway through an error-riddled first term and could have opened up a sizeable lead but for some inaccurate kicking.
Goodes, Ben McGlynn, Andrejs Everitt and Daniel Hannebery all missed gettable chances, and when Travis Boak goaled late in the term the Swans led by just three points at the first change.
Highlights were few and far between early in the second quarter with both defences well on top.
Matt Thomas drilled a set shot to put Port ahead, and Swans' ruckman Shane Mumford brought the crowd to their feet with a huge mark just moments later.
Port kept the ball pinned inside their attacking half for much of the quarter but could not reap full reward for their efforts, with late goals to Jarrad McVeigh and Sam Reid pushing the Swans out to a nine-point lead at the main break.
Swans coach John Longmire must have given his troops a spray at half-time because the difference in their intensity was noticeable early in the third term.
Reid took a great grab inside 50 and kicked truly from his set shot, and when Bolton snapped another the Swans were out to a 21-point lead.
A courageous mark and goal from Tom Logan kept Port in the contest, but the Swans responded through a running goal from Everitt and a long bomb from Nick Smith to extend the margin to 29 points.
Then it was Port's turn to hit back, and a pinpoint pass from Brett Ebert found Jay Schulz on the lead and the big man slotted the set shot.
Daniel Motlop outbodied Ted Richards on the goal line to soccer one through before Troy Chaplin was the beneficiary of a 50m penalty to pull Port within 10 points.
That was a close as they could get though with majors to McGlynn, Lewis Roberts-Thompson, in his first game for the year, and Goodes helped the hosts take a 30-point lead at the final change.
Reid kicked his third early in the last quarter before Simon Phillips snapped a beauty for Port, but when Josh Kennedy kicked his first for the night Sydney were home and the rest of the term was a procession.
